Latest airport report at each station, west on the left. Wind direction is where it blows from. mph converted from knots.

Watch for these signs

Signs forecasters watch for in a fast-deepening storm such as a possible sting jet. This panel only describes what the stations measure; it does not say a sting jet is happening. The Met Office confirms sting jets only in post-storm analysis.

1 · Gust jumps over about 1 hour (flag: rise of 15 mph or more)

2 · Pressure tendency (flag: falling then rising, or a rapid rise)

3 · Drier air (flag: dew point down 2 °C+ or temperature/dew point spread up 2 °C+ in about 1 hour)

From Met Office airport reports (METAR), west to east. Gust = reported gust, or mean wind if no gust was reported. Pressure in whole hPa as reported.

4 · Satellite — infrared cloud image

Traffic Scotland roadside stations — MEAN wind only

Mean wind speed as published by Traffic Scotland; these sensors report no gusts. Ayrshire roads and the main bridges.

SEPA river levels — trend

Stage (m) at the gauge and its change over 1 h and 3 h. SEPA publishes no thresholds, so these show trend only, not flood risk.

SEPA rain gauges

SEPA rain gauge totals, OGL v3. SEPA publishes no thresholds.
